RESCUE

No phone, no lights, no water, no motor car...not a single luxury (like the theme from Gilligan's Island)...

Since coming to Los Cedros (almost 7 weeks ago) we have had numerous power outages (for some period of time - 20 minutes to 3 hours - almost every day) and a few times without water for a day, but nothing like the last few days!  It started on

Sunday night with losing electricity and by

Monday morning there was no water (so the school was switched over to an emergency tank- when the tank is used there is a trickle of water coming out of faucet) so we began conserving water and even gathering rain water in buckets to use.  We could not open the refrigerator beause we did not know when we would have power again.  Today we also lost internet connection (communication to the outside world & our family).

Tuesday, power did come back on for about 40 minutes, just long enough to put clothes in the washer but by the time the last spin cycle was almost finished the power went back off, but at least we had some clean clothes.  We did have about 30 minutes of internet connection in the afternoon but soon it was out again...still no water...

Wednesday - still no internet power or water and the tank was almost empty.  Now we start to get tired of 'camping'  and tonight we realize also there is no phone capability...the food in the freezer is getting questionable and we need electricity....well, about 8 pm the power went on and we start to wash another load of clothes and turn on the fans...no electricity means a very hot house...and plugging things in to charge them (Bruce's razor, cell phone, computer)...power...maybe the end is in sight..maybe tomorrow we will have water again...

Thursday...the power lasted through the night (but still no internet) but went off again about 7:30 this morning....so discouraging!!  And now not even a drop of water...just the rain water we had been collecting so we washed the dishes with rain water and tried to call someone to get help to "get away" from this for a while...well, of course, the cell phone would not work and we had no internet to get help...we just prayed..."Lord, please, we need help...we need to get away from here for just a little bit" and just then... THE PHONE RANG...and I (Liz) answered it and it was David but all I could say was "we need to get away" because I started to cry and handed the phone to Bruce to talk with David and he said he would be there to pick us up in 1 hour to RESCUE us and to pack a few things to stay with them in Managua till Los Cedros had water again.  God knows when we have reached our limit and have had all we can take and then He intervenes...Praise the Lord!  We are in staying in the Bustamante home with electricity, water, and internet (communication to home)...

  1. the power & water, etc is still out (thurs night) in Los Cedros...pray for the locals there - they are strong, wonderful people but this is very difficult for the community. While we 'weak gringos' are glad we were able to leave for a couple of days our hearts go out to the people living in Los Cedros - pray for them please...Liz & Bruce

  2. I can't imagine how hard this has been. Our last actual scheduled team meeting was last night, and now the work of sorting, packing and being ready to go. I'll make sure the team all sees this so we can all be praying specifically for the people. LindaW
